‘Lefty’ Fahrner To Hurl For Council Softballers

City Attorney Jacob F. Fahrner, jr,, a southpaw, will start on the mound tomorrow night for the City Council softball team that will play a Police Department team, Sgt. Cy Hughes is slated to be the starting pitcher for the police.

The game, being held in connection with the dedication of the new West Park shelter is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

The event also will include a picnic event for citizens at 6:30 p.m. and actual dedication activities 7:30 p.m.

Line-ups and team members were announced today by Councilman Russell J. Burns, who will captain the council team, and Deputy Chief Rolland J. Gainsley, captain of the police team. The council team will include other officials besides council members.

Umpires will be Mayor Cecil O. Creal and Municipal Judge Francis L. O’Brien.

The council team lineup includes Councilman George A. Keebler catching, City Administrator Guy C. Larcom, jr., at first base, Councilman Henry V. Aquinto at second, Burns at third, Councilman A. Nelson Dingle and James F. Brinkerhoff for shortstop, Councilman Richard Dennard in left field, Councilman Bent F. Nielsen in center and Councilman Lloyd M. Ives in right.

Citizens Recreation Board members and city department officials will be substitutes on the council team.

Gainsley came up with a list of starters and substitutes for each position. Included, with the substitutes in parenthesis, are:

Catcher, Darwin Cullin (Chet Corter); George Miller as the relief pitcher; First base, Don Whited (Don Ing); second, Ron Donaldson (Eddie Owens); third. Bill Wilson (Sgt. Walter Krasny); right field, Ritchie Davs (Sgt. Duane Bauer); center, Joe Dodson (Sgt. Headley Downey); left—Walt Hawkins (John Biederman).

Policewomen Ann Tapp and Janice Hileman are listed as general substitutes.
