Tax charge brings campaign complaint

County Cmsr. pnhïeen M. Fojtik, D-Ann Arbor, has been named to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Health and Education Steering Committee. Word of the first term commissioner's appointment came from NACo president Gil Barrett and was announced Wednesday to the Board of Commissioners by board Chairman James M. Cregar, D-Ypsilanti Township. i Fojtik is believed to be the first Washtenaw County commissioner ever to be appointed to the prestigious national group. She was the only woman named to the 40-member com mittee based in Washington, D.C. As a member of the cWnmittee, the 29-year-old Fojtik will participate in periodic discussion groups that will develop national positions on legislation relating to health caFe and health insurance systems; comprehensive Rcalth planning; local healíh services; mental health; elementary, secondary and adult education; community colleges; and vocational and technical education. One of the major goals of the group this year is the development of statements for revisión of the American County Platform, the official policy document of the entire NACo organization. As a commissioner, Fojtik was chairwoman of the county's Health Committee in 1973. This year, as one of only two Ann Arbor Democrats chairing county committees, Fojtik heads the new Human Services Committee. Fojtik was nominated for the national post by members of the Michigan NACo group.
