Young Appointed Stacy's Lawyer

Leonard. H. Young, the attorney appointed to represent Robert H. Stacy, confessed Haven Hall arsonist, said after a conference with Stacy yesterday, “I think Stacy will defend himself.”

Young declined to elaborate on the statement as to whether or not it meant that Stacy would enter a not-guilty plea to the arson charges against him.

Young planned further conferences with Stacy this afternoon in the County Jail.

Meanwhile, police plan to question Stacy further on the Montgomery Ward & Co. warehouse fires and a series of campus purse-snatchings in which they believe he might be implicated.

The whereabouts of Zelda Clarkson, Stacy’s ex-girl friend who supplied the tip that led to his arrest, still remained a mystery.

Young was named Stacy’s attorney by Circuit Judge James R. Breakey, jr., after another lawyer, Joseph Hooper, bowed out of the case because he was a trustee of the First Methodist Church, where Stacy reportedly confessed setting another fire.
