Going . . . Going . . . Gone! Things looked a bit grim for eight-year-old Douglas Hehr during Saturday's bicycle auction by the Ann Arbor Police Department. Although he bid on almost every bike, Douglas always watched someone else buy it with the expressions shown here. Noticing this, the auctioneer, Patrolman Chester Carter, finally said: "I have a bid of $5 from this little boy and I can't hear any other bids. Sold!" Police sold a total of 69 bicycles for $1, 120.
