William Mackey (right) of 221 W. Washington St., who has been a member of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers' Union for 50 years, was honored last night by Local 14 of the union for his long membership. He is shown receiving the local's gift of a traveling bag, presented by Thomas Spilling, president of the local. Mackey also received a 50-year membership card in a leather case at the ceremony, held in the AFL Labor Hall.

Anderson, center, and City Police Detective Jan Suomala, right, a Medal of Valor certificate from the National Police Officers Association. Undersheriff Harold Owings Jr. is in the background. The certificate and medal which Lt. Anderson holds is in memory of Deputy Crampton, slain by an escaping convict last Jan. 15. Crampton's name will be placed on a plaque at the National Police Officers Association headquarters in Venice, Fla. Lt. Anderson is Michigan president of the organization and Detective Suomala is regional vice president over three midwestern states.
