STORM WOES - It's been four days since Wednesday's violent storm swept through Ann Arbor, but many effects of that storm remain highly visible. The storm took its toll on the last of several 100-foot-high elms at 1501 Cambridge Road (above), upending not only the tree but also part of the sidewalk. At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cal Hicks, 2615 Lookout Circle, the storm deposited a tree atop the Hicks' garage (right). (News photos by Larry Wright and Cecil Lockard)

Etherton (left) 25, of Garden City, crippled for life four months ago when a police bullet severed his spine during an attempted holdup of a local motel, listens to Municipal Court Judge S. J. Elden (center) read the charge of attempted armed robbery. The special arraignment at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where he has been confined was held yesterday. City Police Detective Sgt. Calvin Hicks (right) who led the ambush which trapped Etherton and two companions, takes notes on the proceedings. The suspect demanded examination and that was set for May 3. He has requested a attorney.
