Eight seminars o drug use and abuse for Ann Arbor parents and students will be held next month, the Ann Arbor Board of Education learned last night. Dr. Sam M. Sniderman, assistant superintendent for the A n n Arbor Public Schools, said seminars entitled "Communicating LAbout Drugs" will be held as Ifnllnws : - Monday, May 12, and again Monday, May 19, at Scarlett and Forsythe junior highs; - Tuesday, May 13, and again Tuesday, May 20, at Tappan and Slauson junior highs. Two meetings will be held at each location, with the possibility of f ollowup meetings if enough interest is shown. A 20-man committee, íncluding Arra Arbor Pólice Chief Walter E. Krasny, has been working on a format for the drug seminar:. r The seminars will consist of small groups led by moderators briefed at a prior training session. Each participant will receive a copy of the agenda, a bibliography of books available locally concerning drugs, some descriptive material about drugs, and the results of a secondary school survey concerning student knowledge and attitudes toward drugs. The survey was based on a sample of about 1,000 students in grades 7-12 of the Ann Arbor Public Schools. Sniderman said the goals of I he seminars are four: -Identification of community esources available and evaluaron of their potential to provide adequate service; -Increased knowledge about iJrugs and drug usage; -Increased community involvement in solving common j problems, and -Better communication between all segments of the com[munity. __J
