Working on this book has been a source of great pride for me. Many people have helped me complete this project and I would like to thank each one of them for all of their efforts. I was lucky to meet many interesting officers, such as Officer George Camp. I am fascinated that he remembered the details of Officer Stang's murder, which had occurred 63 years prior to our meeting. I had done a tremendous amount of research on the murder, so I was quite familiar with the names, dates and circumstances. I was shocked that he remembered all of the details, including the U of M student's name that was in the store. Officer Camp was 90 years old, sick in bed with cancer when I spoke to him. He would die a short time later. His daughter told me it was his last “good day” and if I came to visit a day later, I would not have been able to interview him.

The Ann Arbor News was an invaluable source of information and they truly have been the keeper of the department's history. I would like to thank all the great reporters that captured our history through the years.

Most of all I would like to thank all the officers and civilian workers, who through the years have made the Ann Arbor Police Department one of the best in the state.
