Huizenga Raised To Lieutenant of Police:
Promotion to lieutenant of Police Sgt. Joseph Huizenga, effective today, was authorized by the Police Commission at a meeting last night.
Huizenga’s appointment fills a vacancy created by the recent demotion of James Ogilvy from lieutenant to patrolman. The department has two other lieutenants, Harrison Schlupe and William Hitchingham.
The vacant sergeancy caused by promotion will be filled in the near future, Chief Casper Enkemann said. The department now has five sergeants out of a quota of six.
Huizenga, who lives at 1504 E.. Park PL. joined the force in December, 1940. He was promoted from patrolman to sergeant in December, 1946.
Before joining the local department, he was a member of the Michigan State Police for approximately six months. He was stationed at the State Police post In Traverse City during 1940.
A graduate of St. Thomas High School, where he played on the football and basketball teams, he is married and has one child.
